Lost Weight? Keep it Off!

QUESTION:
Once I have lost the weight, why is it so hard to keep off?

ANSWER:
One of the answers behind this question is behavioural, and according to the American Journal of Clinical, nutrition comes down to a person's coping mechanisms in times of stress. It is comparable to alcohol and tobacco dependency relapse in that if a person does not have adequate coping mechanisms or options then they will always revert back to the old and usually harmful pattern of behaviour.

According to the research people who maintained their weight after losing it, all had the same characteristics in common. They exercised regularly, usually three times a week for 30 minutes. They were aware of their conscious behaviours and didn’t engage in emotional eating. They used available social support and so leant on other family and friends when stressed and confronted problems directly. Relapsers were the total opposite. They didn’t exercise, were not aware of their behaviours especially emotional eating and did not confront their problems, preferring instead to hope they would go away, is any of this sounding familiar?
